I could have just as easily done this theme with Babs and Twist, and while that would have been awesome, Berry and Minuette haven’t really gotten a showcase so far. As I mentioned a few pics ago, Berry was at the top of her field before she dropped the ball, fell into self-medicating and messed up her life and family real bad. Her friend (and eventual spouse) Minuette never would give up on her though, and with the lil’ Doc’s help Berry was able to start picking up the pieces.

Another subject that interests me a lot is that of true love versus co-dependence. People who suffer from obsessive personalities and/or substance abuse are very often treated as unlovable, and if their companions choose to stick by them, those companions are almost always seen as too scared or emotionally weak to leave them alone with their mess. This can be the case, of course, but situations and individuals vary widely. For our purposes, Berry needed someone to believe in her, and to be strong with her even in the event that she might screw up (and no matter how much willpower one has, one could ALWAYS, in theory, screw up). True love isn’t a crutch; it’s a powerful force and it heals broken things. Who knew little Minuette was such a toughy?
