“You be good for Momma and Poppa, okay Sunny?” Sunset murmured to Sunburst before their parents got too close. “I won’t be around to make sure you and Starlight don’t get into trouble anymore.”

“Do you have to go, S?” Sunburst blinked mournfully up at his big sister. “Celestia has plenty of talented ponies. Why does she wanna take you away from me?”

Sunset chuckled kindly. “I want to go Sunny. I’m going to learn amazing things and do awesome stuff. And in a few years…” Sunset leaned in close to Sunburst, acting like she was hugging him, “I bet you a million bucks you and Starlight are gonna join me, then we’ll all be together again. Mom said I shouldn’t say that, but I know it’s true.”

Sunburst’s tail shook back and forth, relishing the last few seconds with his sister before he didn’t see her for a few years.

“I love you, S.” Sunburst whispered.

“Right back atcha, Sunny.” Sunset responded with equal strength.

So here is the Sun family. Sunspot and Stellar Flare both met in Celestia’s school for Gifted Unicorns, so they were ecstatic to hear their own little Sunset Shimmer had been accepted.

Sunset and her little brother were closer than close and they were both heartbroken to hear they would be separated, but Sunny (Sunburst’s nickname) was happy for S (Sunset’s nickname) as much as he could be without crying.
