Earthsong9405’s Headcanon: The way I see it, Featherweight was the product of an unplanned pregnancy. Roid Rage and his then girlfriend were young and, as cliche as it sounds, drunk when they sired the little guy. Abortion and adoption were among their choices for what to do with the developing foal, but after the shock and fear died down a little they both ultimately decided to keep the child. While Roid Rage’s perspective of the foal changed and his love for his unborn child grew, the opposite went for the mother. Despite deciding to carry the foal to term, she still saw it as a burden she didn’t want to deal with. Because of this and because she still wanted to go out and party, she didn’t take very good care of herself when pregnant, even with Roid trying to have her think of what was better for the foal’s health.

Because of her negligence, Featherweight was born very sickly and small. And even then, Roid Rage’s heart swelled with fatherly love whenever his eyes fell on his tiny son.

While Roid took up his responsibilities as a parent headstrong and kept up with trying to help his son improve in health, the mother instead continued to leave both her boyfriend and her foal to go out and hang with her friends or party. The only time she’d ever come back to the apartment was to sleep, and even then that was only so often. Roid put up with it though, if only because he really didn’t want his foal to be without a mother. But as time went on and she continued to neglect their son, Roid Rage finally had enough of it and confronted the mother.

A bad arguement later, the mother packed her stuff up and walked out the door, leaving Roid to raise and nurture their son himself. This came with a lot of job hopping (sometimes even taking up two or more jobs at once), going without meals to pay bills and buy the nutrients and supplies needed for taking care of his son, and of course other sorts of hardships that came with being a single parent.

But despite it all, Roid found himself at his happiest with the little foal. And of course, he didn’t go through it completely alone; his best buddy Thunderlane would help out by watching little Featherweight when he babysat his own baby brother, as well as help him look for jobs.

Finally, things began to turn around for the better. Roid Rage managed to find a steady and decent paying job (thanks to the help of some friends), Featherweight’s health improved and continued to do so, and he found a smaller, cozier apartment over the skies of Ponyville where rent wasn’t too big of a problem. And from then on, their lives have been improving.
