Ulf Egilsson is a 42 year old Northlander peryton stag who is living in and rebuilding a once abandoned farmstead near the market town of Oataca. He is a haunted but tough character, having survived the very worst that the Frozen North could throw at him, and subsequently left the snow and ice behind for the warmth and sunshine of southern Equestria.

Ulf was a renowned warrior in his clan, and had been fighting since the age of 17. His deeds were written into sagas and skaldic verse, but on the very precipice of becoming a living legend, he threw it all away, escaping the lifestyle that he had gradually come to despise, and escaping the Northlands.

He suffers with recurring nightmares and flashbacks to his past. Visions of fighting and misery are par for the course for Ulf, but he does his damndest to get through it as best he can. He is rather eloquent for one who was once a soldier, and he dabbles in skaldic poetry, but his first passion is smelting and blacksmithing, something that he does when not working his farm.

Unlike most Northlanders, Ulf is open and friendly with races outside of his own, and has no problem in conversing or mingling with them. As he does not live in the Northlands any more, this is just as well. Among his own people, Ulf is absolutely hated as an Oath-Breaker, one of the most heinous crimes in their eyes.

This is because when Ulf deserted, he was oath-bound to serve his Thane until released from service after 20 years. Ulf had served 25 years, and despite repeated retirement entreaties to his Thane over the years, the Thane denied him his request every time. Ulf could take no more, and left that very night, heading due south towards Equestria.

Physically, Ulf is tall and strong for a Northlander peryton, and though he is getting on in his years, his reactions are still sharp and fast. He is a good flier, and as is normal for a peryton, he may not be especially fast, but he is very agile in the air. He is scarred from years of battle, but the majority of them are covered by his coat. He has a full rack of antlers, and they are his first line of defense.

He has continued to maintain training himself in the use of his weapons, a spear and a sword. He also has an owl faced iron helmet and a chain mail hauberk. When fully armed and armoured, he is a fearsome adversary, and absolutely not to be underestimated.

He is a somewhat traditional stag, and is heterosexual. However, Ulf does not care if his partners are Northlanders or not, and when he is properly settled, he does want to perhaps find love again in the future. He is a gentle and caring stag towards partners, and he loves children of all species. He has built up a close friendship with a thestral mare that lives nearby, one Ocean Moonrise.

If you were to meet this haunted and troubled worshipper of the Forge God, Tyr, then please bear with him. He blames himself for his desertion of his people, and is terrified of what the Gods think of what he sees as cowardice.

Treat him with respect and you would have a friend and ally for life. Disrespect him and make him lose his considerable temper, and he will track you to the ends of the earth, and you will discover why the Vikingr are feared.

He has taken on a pet raven named Hylli. She is a somewhat magical creature and is more intelligent than usual for one of her species. She is able to speak to a limited degree, but she can normally manage to get her point across.
