Guelder Rose is a Arboreal Peryton doe of 273 years old, but stopped aging at around the age of 45 due to exposure to high levels of raw ambient magic in her original home forests at the base of the Smokey Mountains. She is an elegant and somewhat enigmatic character who works and lives with her daughter, Copper Beech.

Physically, Guelder is of similar stature to her daughter, and has similar physical characteristics and abilities, though has a more slender face and large fetlocks on her hind legs. She has notably short ears for a deer, just like her daughter. However, she is physically blind and has been for longer than anypony can remember. This blindness does not seem to affect her overly much in day to day life, or incredibly, at work.

She can even be found flying on occasion, though this is rare. Guelder Rose does far prefer having her hooves on the ground.

Other than that, her biology has about as much in common with a normal deer, as a human does with a spider. This is due to magic-driven mutation since becoming a perpetual, just like her daughter. Though she can create and apply enchantments like all other deer, she is, despite her mutation, unable to use magic directly like a unicorn.

Her other senses have gone into overdrive since the loss of her sight, and make it as if she is not impaired at all. When she measures a customer, she does not use a tape measure, she does it by touch and feel, and somehow these measurements are spot on every time. She can tell what species her customer are by the sound of their hoof steps and by their scent.

Copper and Guelder moved into Oataca 138 years ago, moving into a large and run down colonial style building which has been since renovated and modernised in many regards. This building doubles as their home and their boutique, and is now considered a beautiful local landmark in Oataca. Their boutique is known simply as "C&G's."

Guelder Rose does not actually speak that often, so when she does, that means that it is important. That being said, she certainly does like to fluster her daughter on a regular basis, just to keep her on her hooves, so to speak. Normally that means making a rude, lewd, or crude joke at Copper’s expense. Guelder Rose is softly spoken, and has a strong Portuguese accent.

At the time of the Return of Nightmare Moon, both Guelder and Copper were holidaying together in Neigh Orleans, soaking up the culture and seeing the sights of that old and storied city. They slept right through the short period of "Eternal Night" and were incredibly surprised when the events were recounted to them later, and particularly unnerved at the lack of "The Mare in the Moon" the following night.

76 Years ago, Guelder fell in love with and subsequently married a quiet and gentle stallion named Wicker Basket, and the pair had a wonderful and loving relationship up until his passing 22 years ago. Guelder and Copper still visit his gravesite regularly, and lovingly maintain it.

When it comes to more personal matters, Guelder Rose is heterosexual, and still takes on a lover every so often, much to the chagrin of her daughter. Guelder is unbothered by the species of a partner, but is very particular in who she takes as a partner. Among those in the know, she is regarded as a very generous and attentive lover who loves physical contact and affection, especially around her hooves and the bases of her wings.
