Plant monsters tend to slow-creep-sudden-surprise-attack type unless they're being spurred on by a controlling intelligence. Which, from what little I understand about plants and nature, seems fair enough.

Fluttershy: We should... probably do something, right?
Pinkie Pie: But we already gave her our Elements!
Rarity: I think she means more than just standing around gawking.
Applejack: Ah say we just hit those vines with everything we got! Make it focus on us instead of Twilight!
DM: That would be one way to help Twilight finish this, yes.
Rainbow Dash: Say no more! Time for the secret Element of INCREDIBLE VIOLENCE!
Twilight Sparkle: Wait. Are the vines stopping me from using my horn?
DM: Well... not yet.
